Interview: Get To Know The Real Amy Chico

August 24th, 2009 by Lisa Oates · 1 Comment

Amy Chico is the newest agent on The Harrisonburg Homes Team, but she’s been on the team for nearly two years! If you’ve ever met her, you know she has a wonderful, infectious, fun personality and works hard to deliver great customer service to her clients. Here is a bit more, from Amy’s perspective…

How long have you lived in the Harrisonburg area?
I moved here with my husband and our five children in 1994.

What did you do before real estate?
I am a graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I was a stay-at-home mother for 14 years while our children were young. I then became a registered nurse and I am currently working part-time at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in the Ambulatory Surgery Center. My part-time status and the flexible hours allow me plenty of time to assist clients with real estate.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in real estate?
Chris has been a friend of our family since shortly after we moved to the area. He approached me a few years ago about joining him in real estate. I was totally surprised. Chris said that because of my natural love for people and my ability to connect with folks I would be a “natural” at real estate. I was intrigued at the idea, but did not feel that the time was right for me. In the fall of 2006, we sold our home, using Chris as our agent. The idea came up again — and this time I thought that it was something I would like to pursue. I did the course work and was licensed in early 2008.

What is your role on the team?
I work primarily with buyers. I really enjoy working with a team. It allows me to focus on meeting with clients and showing them properties that meet their specific needs. It is nice that there are other specialists on the team so that they can do their part in a transaction and I can focus on the client. I think that this approach is a win-win for everyone. I can also list properties for sale and can give sellers tips on how to “stage” their home in order to maximize its selling potential.

What do you love about your job?
I would have to say that I love working with people. They energize me! I love the idea of “match-making” people with properties. I think it is fun to help someone find just the right place for their particular needs.

Best place in Harrisonburg for a cup of coffee?
I am partial to Mission Coffee at the hospital. I love the Rainforest Crunch and appreciate the owner’s commitment to donate a portion of the proceeds to missionaries all over the world.

Favorite outdoor dining?
Cally’s. It makes me feel like I am on vacation in another town so it’s easy to relax and feel as though I’ve gotten away for a bit.

I see that you folks decided to stay in “The Valley”. I knew the 4 of you at New Life Pres when Larry was teaching at Norfolk Christian. cs
