Last month, we posted about the increase in sales over the month of November 2009. Sales increased from October ‘09 by over 30%! So, how is our local market trending for December? Typically, December is a much slower month in real estate sales because folks are busy focusing on the holidays and spending time with loved ones… not to mention shopping. Also, many closings occurred in November because the original first time home buyer tax credit was set to expire November 30th, but has since been extended.
We’ll likely see a decrease in sales for December, but all for good reason, and we plan to see an uptick in sales in early 2010. Keep in mind that these numbers are only for December 1 - 16. Here are the raw numbers, pulled from the HRAR MLS for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County (including Massanutten):
And for you visual folks, a chart:
You’ll notice that so far, December 2009 has experienced the same number of sales as the full month of January of last year. We’ll post another update on these stats once the year ends!
