Tax rates in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County are generally about the same as the rest of the country, if not on the lower end of the scale. Although our tax rates are increasing, we’ll still be “sitting pretty” compared to other parts of the nation. Here is a quick snapshot of our local tax rates and when they take effect:
- City of Harrisonburg real estate tax: new rate of 63 cents per $100 of assessed value (effective July 1, 2012)
- Rockingham County real estate tax: new rate of 64 cents per $100 of assessed value (already in effect for 2012)
- City of Harrisonburg meals and lodging tax: new rate of 6.5% (effective July 1, 2012)
- Rockingham County food and beverage tax: same rate of 4% (individual town taxes may be different)
