Take a stroll through Hillandale Park... 74 acres of shady, wooded paths highlighted by open fields in the middle of Harrisonburg, and also featuring a variety of fantastic events throughout the year.
Take a tour of the scenic Wildwood Park, nestled along a bend in the river in the Town of Bridgewater, featuring an abundance of shade, short walking path, playground, suspension bridge, picnic shelter, and much more.
For the third park in our Area Parks Series we visited the always colorful and aptly named A Dream Come True Playground. This park really is a dream come true, not only because of the fantastic and extensive play equipment, but because it all started with a small Girl Scout Troop who had a big dream. They dreamed of a playground where all children, regardless of age or abilities could truly play side by side. Now that’s a dream worth fighting for! After 9 years, this fully accessible and inclusive park was a reality.
Oakdale Park offers something for everyone. Fitness lovers can walk or jog on the loop and play soccer or ultimate frisbee in one of the many open spaces. If you want to enjoy a beautiful summer evening there are little league ball games almost every night of the week from April to June or open air concerts on the weekends. The two play sets offer fun for kids of all ages. Picnic shelters and open grassy spaces provide great party and group gathering areas. And the city-central location makes for easy access and enjoyment.
