Late summer is a great time to eat outside and enjoy the views...and what better place to do that than on a rooftop downtown! Jimmy Madison's has recently opened up a rooftop dining and bar area atop the Free Clinic. I had the opportunity to meet the general manager, Scott Stephens, and he showed me around their beautiful newly renovated space - with great views of the courthouse and downtown.
We as a Team love and support the Arts Council of the Valley and the work they do to make life more enriched for all of us in Harrisonburg. We recently had the chance to talk with Jenny Burden who was a member of our Team before taking on the role of Executive Director at the Arts Council. Needless to say, she has a special place in our hearts and we're thrilled with the work she's doing for arts in our community.
We are privileged to have the artwork of Denise Kanter Allen displayed at the Wilson Downtown Gallery for another month. If you stopped by for our August First Fridays reception then you saw her trademark whimsical, vibrant, and uniquely eye-catching acrylic paintings. But in September there will be even more of her talented work on display - so stop back in and see what's new!
There's a new place in town that is sure to become a Harrisonburg favorite in no time. Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn Company has officially opened. And we are officially big fans.
I had the privilege of spending a short time at Vine & Fig, site of the New Community Project in Harrisonburg, to talk with Tom Benevento and others who work and live on the site. I was awed by the knowledge and intelligence of these people, inspired by their commitment to live uncompromisingly on their principles, and humbled by the selfless way they provide resources for and care about those in need. Read on to get a brief overview of what they're doing at the Vine & Fig site and throughout the community.
