Virginia Will Soon Cut Down on Cul-de-Sacs

According to WHSV, Governor Tim Kaine has new policies in place to cut down on cul-de-sacs, starting this July. Why? It will create better “flow” through neighborhoods for emergency vehicles, school buses, and public transportation. It could also be cost effective — snow plows, street sweepers, garbage trucks, etc. wouldn’t have to weave in and out of neighborhoods.

New regulations for secondary roads will take effect this summer. Under these regulations, if new developments aren’t connected well enough, the Virginia Department of Transportation won’t bring them in to the secondary road system. That means homeowners would have to take care of things such as plowing on their own.
