If you are currently in the food business or ever in the future plan to be, you have to know (really, it’s a must!) about The Business of Food Conference that’s scheduled for the end of June, brought to you by the Central Virginia and Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Centers.


The Business of Food Conference features a broad range of workshops and panel discussions relevant for food service professionals, restaurant managers and owners, and first-time food business entrepreneurs.*

The Conference is for the purpose of “Growing our culinary region with the right ingredients”* through sessions, panel discussions, and workshops. Topics range from branding, food safety, and social media to managing for growth, the hiring process, and the recipe for success.


The Conference is geared toward food service professionals, restaurant managers and owners, and first-time food business entrepreneurs.
The speakers include:
Emmy nominated Chef, Nathan Lyon;
TEDx Motivational Speaker, Jim Harshaw;
Sr. Marketing Manager, National Restaurant Association, Anna Tauzin;
Award-winning writer and brand strategist, Elizabeth Derby;
Sysco Business Review Manager, Diane Small;
Owner of Jack Brown’s and Billy Jack’s, Aaron Ludwig.


Monday, June 29th, from 8 AM – 5:30 PM

During this time, several sessions and multiple workshops are offered.

Plus, the conference includes lunch with Chef Nathan Lyon (can’t make the whole conference? Register separately for the lunch) and a ‘Mixology’ Session with drink and demonstration at FoodBarFood to finish off the day (separate registration for Mixology Session).
