The Great Community Give is the first ever community wide online giving day event hosted by The Community Foundation. It will take place on April 18th from 6:30am to 8pm. The money raised (their goal is $70,000) will support 59 local partner nonprofit organizations. Community members are encouraged to participate by giving to a nonprofit of their choice through www.greatcommunitygive.org on that day. Amanda Bomfim, the coordinator of the event, was kind enough to answer our questions.

What inspired the Great Community Give?

Amanda: Community Foundations across the country are hosting giving days for a number of years now. Giving days are a great way for community members to connect with charities and causes they are passionate about. The Great Community Give is Harrisonburg and Rockingham County’s first community wide giving day event. We hope that community members of all ages will give to their favorite local nonprofit organizations that serve our area every day. We are excited for this great day of philanthropy!

Can you give us a sneak peek of some of the prizes?

Amanda: Prizes are listed on our website for nonprofits, donors, and sponsors to see! We have Leaderboard prizes for overall Most Unique Donors and Most Dollars Raised thanks to our generous platinum sponsors, Estland Deisgn and F&M Bank. The Leaderboard prizes range from $8,000 in first place to $2,000 in fourth place. We also have Power Hour prizes and Golden Ticket prizes that will be given to nonprofit organizations throughout the day. Power Hour prizes are given to nonprofits with the most donors or most dollars raised within that hour. Power hour prizes are $2,000 each. Golden Ticket prizes are given randomly. Throughout the day we will randomly draw names of donors. Whichever organization that donor gave to, we will give another $1,500.
